THERE have been mixed views as £150k in 'urgent' works needed at Barrow's House of Lords site.

Barrow's House of Lords site has been derelict since it was gutted by fire in 2017.

Now there are plans to perform 'urgently necessary' works on the site in Abbey Road, which is privately owned.

The council is now threatening to take enforcement action against the owner of the building to carry out the work but is preparing to take on the repairs itself.

The council has tendered a contract worth up to £150,000 in a search for a building company to take on the work.

Residents took to social media to share their thoughts on the proposal with some saying that the building should be pulled down.

Sarah Hill said: "Just pull it down instead of wasting yet more taxpayers' money."

Alan Lund said: "Get it paid - history needs protecting"

Dot Neate said: "What a waste of money not sure it's been like that since 2015."

Ben Edward Postlethwaite said: "I remember the day it happened I was in the hospital with IBD flare up and we all watched it burn."

Eddie Irvine said: "I remember the day it happened living directly behind it I was sat watching Tom Hanks in Inferno thinking it was all a bit over the top when we heard a knock on the door from the police telling us to evacuate."

Pat Shaw said: "As long as taxpayers aren't paying!"

Elaina Mcgrevey said: "Absolute eyesore. Sort it out"

Smith Kerry said: "I noticed the other day how the weeds had taken over the scaffolding. Such a shame and eyesore. Don’t know why they don’t just keep the front and build a retail place behind it like they did with John Winrah building."
