MILLOM Coastguard Rescue has teamed up with the military after a bomb alert was called.
The team was called by Belfast Coastguard at 6.15 am on Thursday who asked them to investigate a suspicious item found by a member of the public on the foreshore south of Seascale.
The Belfast team gave their Millom counterparts the coordinates and they soon found the item and identified it as ordnance (a military weapon).
A full description, dimensions, and additional photographs were forwarded on to the Bomb Disposal team, who came from Catterick Garrison, near Richmond, in North Yorkshire to meet MCR at 5 pm.
A post from MCR said: "Charges were set, and while the Coastguard watched for walkers in the area, the item was disposed of in the time-honoured fashion.
"Teams stood down shortly after and returned to their respective stations.
"It is 12 months to the day that we were in the exact same place, doing exactly the same thing.
"Ordnance comes in all shapes and sizes.
"It's not always obvious what it is, so if you see anything suspicious, or something that looks out of place, leave it where it is.
'Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
"Give us its location, either a Grid Reference or W3W, a brief description and we will do the rest. Stay safe."
