A BEACON is to be lit at Barrow Town Hall on June 2 to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
The beacon is one of thousands being lit across the UK and the Commonwealth.
The lighting of the principal beacon - a tree sculpture made up of 350 individual trees in aluminium pots - will take place at Buckingham Palace on the same evening.
Cllr Hayley Preston, mayor of Barrow, said: "I hope people across the area take the opportunity to join together to mark this special day on June 2.
"This is a unique milestone in history and I'm delighted that Barrow will be among the locations around the world to celebrate with a beacon."
Pageantmaster Bruno Peek LVO OBE OPR said: "They [the beacons] will enable local communities to join together to pay tribute to Her Majesty as part of the official programme of events."
At 2pm on June 2, town criers across the country are invited to read a specially written proclamation.
At 9.35pm, pipers and pipe bands are asked to play 'Diu Regnare'.
Bugle and cornet players are encouraged to play the specially written 'Majesty' bugle call at 9.40pm to herald the lighting of the beacons at 9.45pm.
