VOLUNTEERS are being sought to join a vital service.
Organisers of the St John Ambulance unit in Barrow and Ulverston are appealing for new volunteers to step forward to learn how to be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.
St John Ambulance volunteers are a familiar sight at sporting events and fairs and also in the community.
Adult volunteers meet in Barrow at The Strand and in Ulverston at Blue Light Hub on alternate Wednesdays from 7.30pm to 9pm.
All volunteers are asked to give a minimum of 60 hours per annum and all applicants will need to pass an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Cadets are the charity’s volunteers aged between 10 and 17, who are taught first aid and many other important life skills by youth leaders at a regular weekly meeting.
Sean Rigg, Barrow-in-Furness and Ulverston Unit Manager at St John Ambulance, said: “2022 is going to be a really busy year for St John, with lots happening during summer and beyond. We now need to recruit some more enthusiastic volunteers – both adults and young people – to start learning first aid and to help us carry on our mission of helping people in the community and at events when they most need it. First aid is an invaluable skill to learn as you never know when you might be called on to deliver it.”
