EASTER was celebrated in style by families after an egg hunt, inspired by lockdown boredom, attracted hundreds over the weekend.

Furness Eggstravaganza was held on Easter Sunday by YouthAbility Youth Services and Furness Youth Work Partnership.

It was conceived during lockdown when children were starved of social situations, taking their school lessons from home and not allowed to socialise outside.

The original event took place in 2021 and it was so successful organisers decided to run it again this year.

Alongside the egg hunt were craft stalls, face painting and yarn bombing.

Les McLeese said: "The idea for the event came about in lockdown. Local youth providers were conscious that a lot of young people had not had the opportunity to take part in normal activities.

"The event in 2021 was a real success so we thought we would bring it back again for 2022.

"The public got behind the event and hundreds of Easter eggs were donated by families and local businesses. This year, we also partnered up with other local organisations such as Love Barrow Families, Hearts for Pride, Barrow ParkPlay, Arts4all and Tori Cat.

"There was a family egg hunt yesterday with 248 young people taking part. We also had a craft area where families could take part in painting eggs, pompom-making and yarn bombing.

"It was great to see so many families in the park having some fun on Easter Sunday

"I would like to thank all my volunteers for giving their time on a bank holiday Sunday and all the organisations that supported it.
