RESIDENTS have congratulated a Barrow man who said he is ready to give up his job at BAE Systems for the unique opportunity.
Aaron Sanderson has emerged as the borough council's choice for the role of landlord of Piel Island's Ship Inn pub.
It follows a search that saw more than 190 individuals register an interest in the position, with in excess of 30 submitting applications.
Since the announcement well-wishers have taken to social media to wish Aaron Sanderson all the best in his new venture.
Alan Towart said: "Good luck Aaron, looking forward to having a pint when you're open."
Louise Scarr said: "Never been so excited! Az will have that place back exactly how it should be!! I'll be finally back over when he does."
Mr Sanderson, 33, an electrical team leader at BAE Systems, said the prospect of taking on the Ship Inn presented 'both an incredible risk and a wonderful opportunity'.
“I have very happy memories of visiting Piel many times as a child and throughout my life," he said.
Lynn Andrew Currie said: "Good luck lived in barrow all of my nearly 60yrs and have never been to Piel."
Robert Glew said: "Best of luck to you Aaron, hope you can make a go of it! Great memories of camping on there in the 60's."
