BAE Systems Submarines hosted an 'apprenticeship insight' event, introducing females to opportunities in craft engineering.
Attendees attended virtual sessions online, as well as this attendees were jwere invited for a day's work experience day hosted at the Barrow site's Submarines Academy for Skills and Knowledge. They were able to gain hands-on experience in trades like welding, caulking and sheet metal working and meet some current craft engineering apprentices.
BAE Systems Head of Early Careers Delivery Phil Athersmith said: "The aim of this event was to provide an overview of Craft Engineering Apprenticeships at BAE Systems Submarines with the hope that those attending would consider pursuing a career with us.
"Current employees, Skills trainers and Apprentices designed and developed an engaging and informative programme that provided an insight into Craft Engineering along with personal and behavioural development too.
"We are now looking forward to hopefully welcoming the participants onto one of our Early Careers programmes in the future."
One of the attendees at the event was Mia Clark, she said: "This course has given me a better understanding and insight into a worker's day to day life at BAE Systems. I have learnt a lot of key information about craft engineering and it's allowed me to develop as a person through teamwork skills."
Another attending the sessions, Tyeisha Stamp, said: "This programme helped me a lot to fully understand what course I wanted to do. It was full of great advice and it was also fun to be a part of."
