PEOPLE across Britain were treated to a dazzling display of the Northern Lights this week - and Cumbrians were among those to secure incredible pictures.
The phenomenon is the result of electrically charged particles from the sun colliding with atoms and molecules in the Earth's atmosphere.
Jonny Gios, who captured a stunning photo over Blea Tarn, Little Langdale, had made the journey up to the tarn to capture the Milky Way on Wednesday night - and was treated to the unexpected spectacle of Aurora Borealis.
Wonderful images of the light show over Sandside, Staveley and Carnforth were also captured by readers.
