A CONTEMPORARY, fine-dining restaurant located in the heart of a town has received top marks in a national food award.
Base Restaurant situated in Ford Park at the base of Hoad Bill, Ulverston has received a gold Good Food award with a blue seal for delicious dishes.
The Good Food award is a national award where judges assess the food of eating establishments by analysing customer feedback in terms of food quality, service and value.
They then apply a score to each attribute and apply multipliers based on competition and local population amongst other factors.
It is then only the very best performing establishments who can appear in the Good Food Award and receive a blue seal for delicious dishes which means every meal that comes out the kitchen is of top quality.
Owner of Base Restaurant, Mark Satterthwaite alongside his manager, Abby Mansfield said they are really chuffed to have been awarded.
He said: “Myself and my team have been working towards some form of an award and it’s great that we have all achieved this great recognition.
“We were nominated anonymously, and we just want to say a massive thank you to them and all our customers who have supported us throughout especially through Covid.
“Covid was rough going. We are a fine-dining restaurant but we wanted to keep the business going so offered a take away service.
“It was a challenge for us to try and adapt but it paid off and worked really well.”
Mark took over the business 18 months ago when he decided it was time to open his own restaurant after sitting at home all day during lockdown, home schooling his kids.
Mark who has been a chef since he left school at 15 said: “We were going through our savings just sitting at home and I saw the opportunity to take over the premises and took it.”
Base is a contemporary restaurant offering both daytime and evening meals. The evening menu consists of a seven course tasting menu which changes weekly.
Mark, who appeared on the TV hit show Masterchef in 2018, said: “There is not many fine-dinning restaurants in the area which is what makes us different
“We are niche which is a unique selling point for us. A lot of people don’t eat fine dinning or know much about it so it’s adding fear to the night.
“It gives people an opportunity to sit back relax and unfold.”
