THE vibrant history of a town is being brought to life with technology.
An app will allow people to explore the past and present sights in Ulverston.
Ulverston Business Improvement District has been working with the place promotion app LoyalFree since 2018 to provide businesses a platform to promote offers, event listings and fun trails.
The new augmented reality trail will let app users seamlessly explore the town discovering historic buildings, hidden ginnels and quaint cobbled streets by unlocking images from the past.
Augmented reality overlays digital content and information onto the physical world — as if they are actually there with you.
The trail will be run digitally through the app from and residents can utilise the town’s free Wi-Fi to watch familiar buildings get transformed into past wonders in front of their eyes!
Justin Wales, Ulverston BID manager, said: ‘‘We are thrilled to be the first town in the Lake District to launch an augmented reality trail. I hope locals and visitors enjoy watching Ulverston's exciting history be brought to life again.’’
People are encouraged to discover the vibrant stories at each location through following the narrations in the app.
Explorers can then view the Augmented Reality content by scanning the AR Markers, displayed at each trail location.
Ulverston BID chair Michelle Scrogham said: “I’m delighted to see this new project launch. Ulverston has a long history of innovation and a strong business base in science, technology, engineering and maths so it’s no surprise that we’re leading the way on this fun new way to explore our town."
