Martin Lewis has defended himself from claims he is at fault for several small gas companies going out of business.
This was in the wake of Igloo, Symbio Energy and ENSTROGA being the latest energy suppliers to go under as gas prices see a huge rise around the world.
The MoneySavingExpert founder took to social media to put to rest such criticisms.
On Twitter he wrote: “For the few bizarrely blaming me for the energy crisis (aye, record world gas prices are my fault) saying I pushed people to small providers.
"- I didn't I encouraged people to 'scroll down'
"- I lobbied against ridiculously lax rules on who could get a licence.”

- I didn't I encouraged people to 'scroll down'
-I lobbied against ridiculously lax rules on who could get a licence. See this from 2018 pic.twitter.com/a5y9Uf02lJ
He then attached a screenshot of an article from the MoneySavingExpert website from 2018, where he had met with Ofgem (Office of Gas and Electricity Markets) to encourage people to switch to smaller firms.
This had involved making sure there were more regulations involved before gas companies could become licensed.
The concept of customers ‘scrolling down’ is not immediately going for the first option for energy suppliers, but looking at the smaller companies and making comparisons to ensure healthy competition in the market.
Mr Lewis has made his name championing consumer choice and money saving tips, and has been providing information on his Twitter and website about what people should do if their energy supplier goes out of business.
Energy suppliers that have already gone out of business include PfP Energy, MoneyPlus Energy, Utility Point, People’s Energy, Green and Avro Energy.
