A TOWNS pothole issue finally starts seeing improvement with roads to be repaired with surface patching in the next week.
Residents and motorists of the Dalton North area were said to be unhappy with the state of the roads and reached out to their local councillor with their concerns.
Dalton North councillor, Ben Shirley said he got straight on the case when he received many complaints about the potholes and defects on the roads.
He said: “Residents across Dalton North contact me frequently about potholes and defects on our highway. And by working together with residents and our local community we’re getting our roads on the map so to speak, and the local highways team are rolling out a programme of works to improve our roads.”
Looking ahead, Alexander Place, Duke Street, Sharp Street and James Street West will be repaired for resurfacing from next week, Monday, September 27, to allow for the works causing the Lots Road closure to be completed.
Alexander Place and James Street West will be done under road closure whereas Duke Street and Sharp Street will be done under a two-way traffic lights system.
Ben said: “These repairs are a more substantial repair than the temporary repairs we typically see.
“Looking even further ahead, Duke Street in Askam is particularly bad and I continue to make the case with the council that this road should be resurfaced in the worse areas altogether.
Ben thanks the local highways team for responding so swiftly to resident concerns and said: “I urge as many people as possible to use the online HIAMS portal on the county council website to report as many defects as possible, so that the council has an accurate picture of the state of our highways, and the council can then respond accordingly.”
Beach Street, High Duddon Close, and Duddon Road are still very much on my Mr Shirley’s radar which he is pressing for similar works to be carried out at in the coming months.
