Family businesses are playing a key role in Cumbria’s economic future, says accounting firm Lamont Pridmore.
90 per cent of Cumbria’s businesses are family-run, and given their substantial contribution to the region’s economy – as well as the 25 per cent they contribute to national GDP – Lamont Pridmore wanted to celebrate the value of family business locally.
It comes as the nation prepares to commemorate Family Business Day on September 23 – a day dedicated to awareness and recognition for family-run firms across the country.
Employing more than 12 million people nationwide, these firms are integral to the UK’s recovery.
Like many businesses, during the last 12 months, they have had to struggle with the complications of the pandemic, Brexit and global economic downturn – but Lamont Pridmore has high hopes for these businesses in the future.
The firm’s Chief Executive, Graham Lamont, said: “Family businesses lie at the heart of Cumbria’s economic success and have an important role to play in its future.
“We work with a wide range of family-run companies across the UK and have seen first-hand the difficulties they have faced but we have also seen the resilience and resources they have pulled together to get through these challenging times.”
As a family-run firm, Lamont Pridmore can draw upon its own experiences to support other family businesses.
It has carved a reputation out nationally for its range of family business services, being shortlisted and winning several National Family Business Awards in previous years.
Chris Lamont, a Partner at Lamont Pridmore and trusted business adviser who specialises in family-run firms, said: “Family businesses have a great internal support network but there are many resources outside their own company that they can rely on as well.
“Thanks to our considerable experience and our passion for firms like our own, we are standing ready to support family businesses as we take the next steps towards further economic growth.”
