MOUNTAIN rescuers were called out to a school pupil who was suffering from 'bad cramp' in the Lake District.

Rescuers spoke to the leader of the school party and ascertained the casualty was able to walk.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team (CMRT) had been called to the incident by Cumbria Police at around 4.30pm yesterday. At the time of the call, the school party was between Levers Hawse and Brim Fell.

A CMRT spokesman said it was 'agreed that a small number of team members would meet them on the top of the Coniston Old Man and accompany and support the whole party on their descent'.

"Two vehicles were initially deployed and the group was met as arranged," said the spokesman.

"They were safely accompanied off the fell to our Land Rovers, and arrangements were made to enable the group to return to their overnight accommodation."

The incident saw 11 CMRT members respond for a total of two hours and 45 minutes.

The CMRT spokesman said the afternoon was dry and sunny, with a cold wind chill on the fells.

It was the team's 40th callout of 2021 and its second callout of the day.
