A FORMER postmistress will be celebrating her 100th birthday.
Beloved mother, grandmother and World War Two land girl Betty Bryden, who was born on September 27, 1921, will be marking the occasion with her family.
Her family will be joining her at the home of her daughter Kay for an early celebration with a Chinese meal.
She will also get to enjoy afternoon tea at Storrs Hall, Bowness.
Born in Leeds before growing up in Morecambe, Mrs Bryden worked in various jobs before becoming a land girl during the Second World War - a job she described as the best she had ever had.
After the war she moved to Newton-In-Furness with her parents who took over the Farmers Arms.
It was there that Betty met Robert, a pilot in the Royal Air Force, and they married in March 1947.
Together they bought a house in Barrow and eventually took over the running of Oxford Street Post Office, where they worked for many years until retiring in 1980.
Her family said: “A very happy 100th birthday to a wonderful mum to Paul and Kay, a lovely mother-in-law to Jacqui and Mike, and a very special grandma to Sam and Liv.
“Lots of love and best wishes from us all on your special day.
“Thank you for being the best mother and person ever.
"A very happy birthday and all the love in the world."
