COUNCILLORS have praised the opening of town library which has undergone a £1m refurbishment.

Families enjoyed a family fun day in Barrow on Saturday to celebrate Cumbria County Council’s £1m investment into one of the town’s landmark buildings.

The event held in the Barrow Library building in Ramsden Square marked the official opening of Barrow’s flagship Customer Connect building following completion of the £1m redesign.

The newly redesigned building delivers library services alongside Local Studies, Archives and Adult Learning, and includes a new café area, teen zone, sensory room, bookable meeting space and much more.

Cllr Kevin Hamilton, chair of Barrow Local Committee, said: “The redesign is now complete, making the Barrow Library building one of Cumbria County Council’s flagship customer connect buildings.

"Not only is the building a fortress of knowledge but it’s now also home to a wider range of services."

Cllr Tony Markley, Cumbria County Council’s chairman, said: “The redesigned library building’s new children’s library includes stunning bespoke ship book shelving providing space for creativity, storytelling, and play."
