A PROLIFIC offender found himself back in court after being released from prison.

Ian James Riddick failed to keep up with appointments after serving time behind bars earlier this year.

The 41-year-old Barrow man was hauled before the bench at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court for the offence.

The court heard Riddick had failed to comply with the requirements of post-custodial supervision by missing telephone appointments.

Riddick was said to have missed scheduled appointments with the probation service on March 19, March 30 and June 26.

The court heard he offered no evidence to excuse himself from the meetings.

Riddick, of Schooner Street, admitted breaching the order when he appeared in court.

Magistrates ordered him to pay a fine of £120 and £50 costs for the offence.

Riddick was sentenced at a court in August for breaching lockdown restrictions when Barrow was under Tier 4 measures.

He was said to have taken part in a gathering in a property in Barrow's Egerton Court on January 20.

Riddick was fined £1,760 for the offence at Carlisle Magistrates' Court.

In June he appeared in court charged with stealing nearly £50 of items from Aldi in Barrow.

Pleading guilty, he was told to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work for the offence.

In December 2020 he was jailed for eight weeks or drug driving after he drove with substances including cocaine, morphine and cannabis in his system.

He admitted the offence as well as charges of driving without a licence or insurance when he appeared in the dock at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court.

The court heard that just before midnight on January 21 2020, Riddick was seen by police as he attempted to mount the kerb in his Vauxhall Agila on Hazel Close in Barrow.

Getting out the vehicle, he dropped his car keys and appeared to be under the influence of drink or drugs.

After he was arrested and taken to the police station he failed a field impairment test and then he gave a urine sample, testing positive for the substances.

He was jailed for a further two weeks for failing to surrender to custody at court, having been bailed.

In July 2020 he also admitted to stealing Alien and Angel perfumes from Asda in Barrow worth £104 on June 27 and returning the next to steal Vera Wang, Jimmy Choo and DKNY perfumes worth £200 in total.

He was sentenced to a total of 84 days behind bars.

The court heard the offence was aggravated by the defendant being on bail and his previous convictions.

He was jailed for 16 weeks in May 20202 for stealing alcohol an mobile phones.

In February 2020 he was jailed for 12 weeks after he threatened staff at a Barrow high street store and banned from the shop.

He stole a TV from Asda, vodka from Tesco and grocery items from Co-op.

He also threatened staff from Boots in Barrow's Portland Walk.

The offences were committed while he was on licence and only a short time after his release from prison, the court heard.
