THE arrival of a baby girl marked an incredible five generations of a growing family - ranging from 87 to just two weeks old.

The introduction of a new baby in the family is always a heartwarming occasion, but especially so for one Barrow family celebrating their fifth generation addition.

Beryl Garratt, 87, a retired civil servant, Ann Thompson, 66, leader of Barrow Borough Council and Melanie Buckley, 44 and Levi-Amber Clarke, 21, who both work at Morrison's, all came together to mark the special arrival of Levi's daughter Ayda Rose Bell.

The arrival of baby Ayda was made extra-special by the fact her birth marked the beginning of the fifth generation in the family. Great nana Beryl had four children, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

New mum Levi-Amber Clarke said the reunion was a 'very special' occasion for the ever-growing family.

She said: "I actually didn't think there was going to be five generations in the family until about halfway through my pregnancy.

"Everyone was so excited to meet Ayda, especially my great nanna. Her birthday was really near Ayda's due date so she was hoping she might be born on her birthday!

"It's very special. Not many families can say they have a great great grandma so we're really grateful we have so many family members around."

Miss Clarke said it was particularly special baby Ayda was able to meet her extended family during the Covid pandemic.

"It's so nice that everyone is able to see each other in person," she said.

"It's so special everyone could meet and hold her. I brought her on my great nanna's birthday so it was really meaningful for her. Everyone kept saying how rare it is that there's five generations of family so I really wanted everyone to come together to meet Ayda. Who know's maybe there'll be six generations one day!"
