READERS have had their say on where they think a new Lidl should be based after it was revealed the company was eyeing up three locations in Cumbria.

Lidl is on track to have 1,000 stores in their UK portfolio by the end of 2023 - and has earmarked three potential sites in Carlisle.

John Wadsworth New said: "You would think there would be more locations in South Cumbria which has a larger catchment area than up north. I would like to see Lidl's in Barrow, Dalton, and Millom.

"Potential sites could be: Lesh Lane behind the old Parkview school, the old periscope site on Walney, Salthouse Road next to Pickering's scaffolding, opposite Charnley's in Dalton, next to Wynsors in Dalton, next to the nursing home on Flass Lane... Many more."

Leisa Walker-Denmark said: "Could do.with one in Barrow again."

Stuart Metcalfe said: "Why are people wanting another Lidl in Barrow? Nobody used it hence why it shut down plus it was in a bad place. Look at Burger King that shut down everybody wanted that back it came back now everyone is moaning it's rubbish."

Annette Balderstone said: "Bring lidl back to Barrow... I used it all the time when it was here."

Lorraine Cooper said: "Why do all the supermarkets have to be in Barrow? Why not something different in Dalton or Askam."

Karen Beecroft said: "We had one, they got rid of it."

Joo Lockey said: "We had one in Whitehaven (near the registry office) but they shut it down. Miss going there."

Shaun Patrick Warburton said: "Desperately needed here in Millom, that way they give our only proper supermarket "Tesco" some real competition, as it's over priced and has a dire lack of variety of stock, its only a little bigger than a Tesco Express and most of the young staff are too busy playing on their mobile phones in the aisles rather than concentrating on fresh food stock rotation as the older dated food is always at the back."
