THERE was a stunning display of flowers, vegetables and fruit on display at the Barrow Horticultural Society Show, which was held at Forum 28 in the town in 1995.
The high quality of the entries paid suitable testimony to all the hard work, effort and determination of gardeners in the area to do themselves proud, despite the difficult growing conditions which were experienced that summer.
Barrow gardeners Susan and Bryan Roberts won the Evening Mail Challenge Cup for the best vegetables in the show.
The couple also scooped the Blue Riband for the best exhibit in the show.
Visitors to the show were also able to admire a mouth-watering display of home produce and wines, all produced with love and care.
There was also plenty of children’s entries. Josephine Frame, 11, of Barrow, scored most points in the children’s section, winning prizes for her handwriting, miniature garden and animal made from fruit and vegetables.
Among the trophy winners were: GH Harrison Memorial Perpetual Challenge Trophy: Mr and Mrs D. Houghton, Terry Fullard Trophy: Mr Tompkinson, Barrow News and Mail Challenge Trophy: Mr and Mrs Roberts, Lowden Challenge Trophy: E.M. Jones, Samuel Morgan Challenge Trophy: L. Park.
