WORK has started to refurbish bus shelters across Millom.
Millom Without Parish Council, in partnership with HMP Haverigg, will see two shelters at The Green and The Hill receive a much-needed revamp.
Council clerk Lesley Cooper has praised the prison’s community outreach team.
Ms Cooper said: “It is a really good programme - it’s a community project where prisoners do community work as part of the rehabilitation process.
“It has helped the area before when the team cleared brambles and did litter picks at Kirksanton.”
All costs are being covered by the parish.
The shelter at The Hill is now a light and clean space and will house the relocated parish noticeboard.
The Green’s shelter is still being renovated and is due to be completed soon.
Both shelters were highlighted as areas of concern to the parish in their 2019 Community Plan.
