CALLS to make alternative forms of transport accessible have been made after it was revealed that Barrow was the worst place in England adopting green transport.

Mail readers responded after figures from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency showed the town's uptake on electric and hybrid cars.

Jay Zaccarini said: "This is what happens when the Labour council spend money on silly projects on making Piel island carbon neutral instead of installing more electric charging points etc.

"Get the basics sorted first."

In response, Steven Fletcher said: "How much has the council spent on that Piel Island initiative?

"How much does it cost the council to install charging points for vehicles?

"Is there specific central government funding that can be applied for to increase public charging points?

"I doubt a few extra charging points would make much of a difference to the wider issue.

"Barrow has a high concentration of homes without driveways which makes the idea of electric vehicles problematic."

Robert Sewell said: "What we need is e-scooters much less pollution involved for the mileage from manufacture to sale.

"We just need to regulate the sale of them so kids cant get on the streets and people can't whinge."

Mark Eilbeck said: "An electric car ... outside every terrace house, with most houses having two cars?

"Good luck with that and getting access to your charging port.

"I mean who can even get parked outside their own house nowadays."
