ULVERSTON held a ceremony of commemoration for the 100th year anniversary of the Royal British Legion.
May 15 marked the centennial anniversary of the organisation which was founded in 1921.
The organisation's purpose has always been to provide financial, social, and emotional support for members of the armed services and their families after the Great War.
In attendance at the socially distanced ceremony were members of the Ulverston Royal British Legion branch, as well as the Mayor of Ulverston Sharon Webster.
This also marked the final engagement the mayor would have during her tenure.
Her husband, former Mayor David Webster, was at her side during the ceremony.
The wreath was laid at the cenotaph by branch president Tom Pickthall, which also coincided with the laying of the wreath outside Whitehall in London at 9am on Saturday morning.
Mr Pickthall, who also sits on the North West District Group, said: "This ceremony marks the centennial anniversary for the Royal British Legion and is an important time for the organisation.
"We hope to continue to advertise the important work the organisation does in Ulverston and around Cumbria."
Mayor Webster said: "This is my final appointment as mayor and I am so proud and honoured have been here today with the Legion and I look forward to seeing future events held under fewer restrictions.
"The legion has been a big part of the community and it always will be."
Cllr Norman Rowe said: "The Legion was originally an amalgam of various first world war pals’ groups who agreed to work together in 1921 to the benefit of members of the armed forces.
"As a legion we are on duty 365 days a year. We do hope to put on similar occasions in the future."
