YOUTH centres and supermarkets - readers have shared their ideas about the future of a former betting shop up for rent.
Mail readers have taken to social media to put forward their ideas about what could fill the former Coral shop in Walney.
The space, on The Promenade, is listed for rent for £12,000 a year.
The betting chain’s website lists six other stores in Barrow and one in Dalton.
Joss Reed said: “A youth drop in centre of some sort.”
Craig Ley said: “Another takeaway is just what’s missing around there.”
Harry Johnson said: “I heard Channelside amusements is getting it.”
Bob Humphrey said: “Chip shop.”
Stuey Thomson said: “ A Greggs on Walney.”
Scott A Hartley said: “Co-op please we need another, I don’t think there are enough. If not a Greggs please.”
Phil Rhodes said: "A good charity shop would be nice or maybe another takeaway, because you can never have too many."
Linda Hall said: "Maybe level it off and build a an apartment block! No parking and no outdoor space."
Stuart Metcalfe said: "Success of online betting has closed their own shops whoppers shame on the old folk that can't bet online."
Kayleigh Marie said: "Yes cause we seriously need more takeaways."
Christine Johnson said: "No chance of a takeaway."
According to the listing by property agents Peill and Co: "The property comprises a substantial ground floor retail unit suitable for a range of uses including office, retail, showroom or take-away use (subject to any consents being received)"
The listing follows plans to convert another former Coral shop in Barrow into a takeaway.
A proposal was submitted by D and V Lee Property Consultants last month to Barrow Borough Council to convert 6 Bath Street into a hot food takeaway outlet.
The premises has remained vacant since 2018 after the closure of the betting shop.
Now the site has been earmarked for a hot food takeaway.
