MORE armed police officers are being recruited to be stationed at Barrow's shipyard.

The Ministry of Defence Police is searching for police constables to take up roles as firearms officers.

Armed police officers began conducting regular patrols of the shipyard in 2019.

The MoD Police said Michaelson Road, North Road and Bridge Road on Barrow Island would be patrolled to beef up security around the site.

BAE said it was not in response to a specific threat.

Serving officers and those who left police no more than three years ago can apply.
