CONISTON Mountain Rescue Team were called out to the Old Man on Wednesday. The team say a lady had slipped and fallen while descending the fell.
She had briefly become unconscious from the fall after hitting her head, which led to her friend calling for help. After being notified by Cumbria Police, the mountain rescue team despatched teams in their Land Rovers where they drove as far as the tracks permitted, before walking up to the casualty. The lady was assessed, given pain relief and carried down the fell on a stretcher to the Land Rover. After driving down the fell, a helicopter from Great North Air Ambulance Service landed near the fell gate car park.
The doctor decided that a land ambulance transfer to Furness General Hospital was sufficient. The ambulance picked up the patient at the rescue team’s base. 18 volunteer members attended the incident, which lasted two hours and 20 minutes.
