Schools around Furness were busy raising cash for Red Nose Day yesterday.
Primary school pupils have been donning their red noses, participating in fun activities and wearing their own clothes, all in aid of Comic Relief.
Comic Relief helps charities in the UK and across the world and, since its creation in 1985, has helped to support more than 105.6 million people.
The annual event aims to raise millions to help continue its good work and make people laugh in the process.
Lots of schools in the area got in on the action, partaking in some light-hearted fun in a bid to raise cash.
Sir John Barrow School celebrated by having a non-uniform day and children were encouraged to wear red.
Pennington Church of England Primary School also celebrated with a non-uniform day and raised £100 with donations.
And, at St James’ Church of England Primary School, pupils and staff threw on their capes and became superheroes for the day.
Children participated in lots of fun activities and managed to raise £160 from generous donations and red nose purchases.
Carol Newton, from St James’, said: “Today the children and staff have dressed up as superheroes, they have been making masks, baking and decorating biscuits and making the most of our superhero-themed photo booth.”
There were also lots of superheroes at South Walney Primary School and South Walney Infant and Nursery School.
Many pupils also celebrated at home, including seven-year-old Mollie.
Dressing up in bright red, she participated in her school’s Zoom assembly.
Despite Covid-19, the BBC still aired a special programme last night jam-packed full of comedy sketches and special appearances, from 007 meeting Catherine Tate’s Nan to an exclusive UK performance from Justin Bieber.
