BOSSES of a Barrow takeaway app are ‘not concerned’ after national delivery company Deliveroo announced it is coming to the town.
Deliveroo has confirmed it is launching in Barrow next month and is on the look out for delivery drivers and riders in the town.
It will be the fifth such business in Barrow alongside Barrow Eats, Just Eat, Uber Eats and Food Hub.
Deliveroo said their arrival in Barrow will also be a major boost to local businesses, who will be able to reach new customers and grow their offering through delivery.
Scott Beckman, who has run Barrow Eats alongside Sam Cunningham since 2018, said he was not concerned by the national chain’s arrival and believed their customers would ‘stay local’.
“We’re not remotely concerned,” he said. “We’ve got a fantastic relationship with all our partners and with local community projects and charities.
“We have 90 takeaways on the app now who are all very receptive and supportive of each other.
“Deliveroo actually charge five times more to local restaurants to sign up to their app and take 20 to 30 per cent commission.
“Like Uber Eats and Just Eat - these apps are all for the national chains like KFC and McDonald’s which takes so much out the town.
“We work with our partners - they are as important to us as we are to them.
“We want our customers to buy from local businesses and keep money circulating in the town rather than being taken away from it by ordering from a national site.
“We have a huge amount of choice and a fantastic number of takeaways who I believe will stay loyal to us.
“We’re more likely to take custom from Deliveroo than they are from us - it’s really not a massive concern.”
Deliveroo is currently on the look out for delivery and riders to join the team in Barrow.
The company has seen rider demand soar this year and now works with 50,000 riders across the UK.
Harrison Foster, Deliveroo’s UK Regional Director, said: “We’ve seen a huge demand for Deliveroo in Barrow-in-Furness and we’re excited to be launching next month.
“We’re really excited to be creating new work opportunities for local people.
“The team is looking for people with passion, drive and great customer service who are seeking the added benefit of flexible work amongst other perks. Anyone who’s interested should head over to our website to sign up.”
Restaurants, takeaways and grocery retailers can apply at restaurants.deliveroo.com/en-gb to become a Deliveroo partner.
