READERS have given their thoughts ahead of Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s scheduled announcement today of a ‘roadmap’ out of lockdown.

Mr Johnson is set to reveal plans for bringing the country out of the third national lockdown.

The Premier has said easing England’s lockdown would be based on a ‘cautious and prudent approach’.

He has also emphasised he wants this lockdown to be the last.

He urged the public to be ‘both optimistic but also patient’ ahead of his announcement, saying: “We want progress to be cautious but also irreversible.”

It has already been revealed that care home residents in England will be allowed one regular visitor from March 8.

That is also the date reportedly earmarked for the return of schools.

And Mail readers offered their opinions after being asked for their thoughts ahead of today’s briefing from Mr Johnson.

Anne Mctavish said: “Rubbish – go away with your roadmaps and tiers and so-called lockdown. Just open everything back up and let’s see people we love again that don’t live near us, and not out in the cold weather and rain too.”

Stephen Snell said: “Anne Mctavish, open everything back up and we will be back where we were before.”

Lesley Sedgwick Fursey said: “As long as they honour the promise of one relative being able to go into a care home (wearing full personal protective equipment and after testing) and hold their relatives’ hand. They broke that promise at Christmas, so...”

Alex Rayment said: “I want him to announce a zero Covid strategy like over a billion people on the planet currently enjoy, from New Zealand to Vietnam, from China to the Isle of Man, from Australia to Taiwan.

“Where they have no deaths and such low or non-existent Covid rates (confined to quarantine hotels at the borders) they can live normal lives without mass deaths.

“I want him to announce that. But he won’t.”
