Ulverston charity Alice's Escapes is set to receive a huge donation today, on the 25th birthday of the late founder.
The charity, set up by the late Alice Pyne B.E.M, was set up eight years ago, shortly before her sad passing in 2013.
Alice was just 14 when she was given a terminal prognosis but, determined to make every second count, she started an online blog detailing her hopes and dreams.
One wish was to start a charity that would allow seriously-ill children to enjoy a family holiday.
Now run by her family, the charity has grown and provides bereavement breaks for those who have lost a child of any age and family escapes for seriously and terminally ill children.
The team receive referrals from tertiary hospitals across the UK and also from hospices and Paediatric Outreach Teams.
Today, they are set to receive a donation of £10,000 from the Foresters Friendly Society Convalescent Fund.
The money will be used to sponsor two of the Alice's Escapes accommodations, Mabel's Place and Molly's Place.
The Foresters have worked closely with the charity for the past year and Alice's mum, Vicky Pennington-Pyne, is delighted to have been given an extension to this partnership, given the difficulties Covid has brought in for fundraising.
In addition to the convalescent donation, they have also been gifted a donation to buy toys for the children.
Mum and charity trustee Vicky says that there was little more important to Alice than helping out others.
She said: "I am dedicated to continuing Alice's legacy here at the charity in Ulverston and I am responsible for the day to day running of the charity.
"We have now provided respite for over 300 families which, for many, has been a final holiday together, along with phone support and onward referrals.
"This year has been extremely tough for many and the support of the Foresters in sponsoring two accommodations will enable us to continue to deliver escapes to those in need.
"It's vital that we, in this small peninsular, give credit to donors from regional positions and acknowledge their contribution to our area."
