A man has been jailed for 28 days for using racist language towards a court official.
Edward Kinsella, 61, of Capper Close, Kendal, appeared before South Cumbria Magistrates Court on Thursday, where he faced a number of charges.
He admitted one charge under the contempt of court act.
Court papers show that on August 10, in Barrow, Kinsella was alleged to have wilfully misbehaved in South Cumbria by abusive behaviour.
Kinsella was jailed for a total of 28 days, with magistrates stating they had opted for the jail sentence because the offence was so serious, adding he had sworn at a court official and used racist language.
Magistrates added that his apology was insincere and not adequate, so they opted for a jail sentence.
Kinsella pleaded not guilty to six other unrelated charges and his case was adjourned for a trial on October 21.
