A BARROW youngster has raised more than £500 for Furness General Hospital’s children’s ward through a yard sale at his home.
Carter Deakin, 6, has left his family and friends in awe after organising the sale which raised an amazing £660.
Carter was inspired when he and his mum Louise were out on a walk and came across someone having a yard sale.
Louise said: “Carter loved it and asked if he could sell his toys and give the money to the poorly children.”
When Carter got home he gathered up his old Hot Wheels tracks, action figures, football equipment and slime.
His mother added: “Carter is a really kind and thoughtful boy, and he said he wanted to help the ‘poorly kids’ at the local hospital.
"He cleared out some toys to sell, and people in our community were really generous too.
“We had over 30 raffle prizes and cakes donated, from hair and nail vouchers, to fizz, to fruit and veg boxes.
“And of course, Carter did the classic guess how many sweets in the jar. It was a great turn out.”
Heather Wood, matron for children and young people at Furness General Hospital, said: “We are so thankful to Carter for all his hard work raising £660 to support our little patients here at Furness General.
“It will go a long way to making children’s stay on the ward less scary.”
