It's been a month since we started to enjoy a pint in the pub again. This week, we asked where the best places were to pick up a drop of real ale...
1. The Black Dog Inn, Dalton
Based just outside of the town on Broughton Road, the Black Dog is a huge favourite amongst our readers, thanks to its range of locally-brewed Cumbrian ales that have earned the place CAMRA awards.
Hopefully, by the time its open fire is needed again, the pub will reintroduce its live entertainment at a place that Christine Corkill believes has "the best real ales in Furness" and has "great and friendly staff" according to Angela Patterson.
2. The Kings Arms, Barrow
It's one of two pubs in the town to go by the name, but while this venue on Quarry Brow in Hawcoat is away from the town centre, it's another very popular choice for our readers.
For those unfamiliar, it's 'hidden away' by its own admission, but the Kings Arms is in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide and has expanded its choice again since reopening with four working pumps on July 8.
3. Manor Arms, Broughton
Broughton may be small in size, but it has a great selection of pubs, including this award winner on The Square.
Family-owned since 1988, the Manor Arms is a real favourite for Carol Rowell, who has highlighted that it has won the CAMRA award for Best Pub in Furness on a number of occasions.
4. Millom Conservative Club
It's just a couple of weeks since the club on Lapstone Road reopened and Millomites, whatever their political persuasion are delighted to see it back and enjoy a pint of real ale while enjoying the sport on TV.
5. The Old Friends Inn, Ulverston
Based on Soutergate, they offer six cask ales at low prices which can be enjoyed in its large beer garden.
Prior to Covid, there was a piano and guitar available to use, giving the Old Friends a great, friendly atmosphere and cards, dominoes and darts can be played there.
6. The Swan Inn, Ulverston
We move slightly across Ulverston to Swan Street for our next choice where the landlords aim to make the pub experience as enjoyable as possible, including a recent fancy dress night at a time where we could all do with our spirits lifting.
7. Unsworth's Yard Brewery, Cartmel
A unique place on our list in that you can drink ales that are brewed on-site in the beautiful village of Cartmel.
If that's not enough, Unsworth's Yard also offers shops selling cheese and wine, plus a tea shop for those designated drivers.
8. Rose and Crown, Ulverston
We finish by heading back to Ulverston and a beautiful traditional pub on King Street that was originally built in the 1500s.
With old oak beams and black slate floors, this is an ideal venue to enjoy a pint, while the Rose and Crown also offers a delicious menu of food.
