The Mail readers react to the news that Barrow MP Simon Fell is 'open' to regional lockdown measures.

Matthew Plant said: "According to articles on several news websites we started testing at the end of February and one of the first confirmed cases was March 14? Surely if the early testing was such as major factor in our figures then these initial weeks would have experienced higher figures and this could very easily be proven."

Moyra Lindsay said: "It is ok locking us down if it saves lives I agree but it wont stop them bringing people in from other places anyway which is putting the rate up for Barrow."

Donna Woodburn said: "If it stops folk from dying then bring it on. Good luck with enforcing it though."

Christopher Alderson said: "More rubbish, we've had more testing so always gonna have more cases identified."

Antonia Taylor said: "It's because everyone panicked in barrow and ordered the kits online etc."

Shaun Vasey said: "If he was actually up here in contact with the local hospital to the area then he'd be aware Morecambe Bay NHS Trust rightfully used some common sense and went against his governments lacklustre policy of not testing the front line workers for Covid. As soon as BAE cut staff numbers and effectively closed the yard I'm sure those numbers will have been added in, that's four of five thousand assumed cases they could stick in their little report straight away without testing a single person. Just look at the bigger picture, the way it's been worked out alone isn't respective to the numbers in this town, it's a generic calculation that makes it look higher than it actually is, yes it is high but the actual number for the area covered isn't massively higher than other areas around the UK."

Vanessa Morton said: "If we are that bad I agree lock us down."

Kieron Martin said: "He won't be residing up here anyhow. Won't affect him."

Jason Andreoli said: "The high figures are per capita so the argument about geographical area is wrong and makes no sense anyway."
