TV SITCOM stars Ricky Tomlinson and Ralf Little enjoyed a tour of Cumbrian delights in their latest television adventure.

The Royle Family duo paid a visit to the county for their new UK Gold series ‘Ricky and Ralf’s Very Northern Road Trip’.

Ricky and Ralf learned all about Kendal’s most famous sweet delicacy - Kendal Mintcake - on a visit to Romney’s. The duo found out about the techniques behind making the iconic energy boost and even tried their hand at making some, followed by the inevitable taste test.

“I’ve had Kendal mint cake since I was a kid,” said Ralf. “It’s like the taste of my childhood all over again. It’s fascinating seeing it all.”

Ricky and Ralf left with a gift box from the company and a commemorative mug to remember their visit.

The friends also ventured out onto Windermere on a boat. Ricky reflected how relaxing he found the experience. The duo then return to their campervan and headed north, via Honister Pass, to the Derwent Pencil Museum in Keswick where they saw the world's largest pencil.

They dined at the Michelin-starred Cottage in the Woods before Grace Dent gave the pair an insight into her home city of Carlisle at the racecourse.

Ricky entertained his travelling companion with impressions of another famous actor.

“Things I never thought I’d do is drive around the Lake District in a camper van, with Ricky Tomlinson doing impressions of Brian Blessed,” said Ralf.

The episode aired on UK Gold on Monday.
