A well-known Lake District brand is running an online campaign celebrating local heroes during the coronavirus crisis.
Herdy, which is based in Kendal but has stores in Bowness and Grasmere, has launched its Herdy Heroes campaign and is asking people in Cumbria to nominate those who have gone above and beyond to help during the pandemic.
Every Monday, Herdy is asking followers on social media to nominate a hero and they will select a winner every Friday and design a customised eCard to be sent to the chosen nominee.
Diane Hannah, co-founder of Herdy, said idea came about after the company received an email from a customer asking it put a "Thank Ewe NHS" graphic it had produced onto a mug so he could give it to his wife who works as an anaesthetist at the Cumberland Infirmary.
"We had to explain that, as well as our own shops being closed right now, unfortunately our mug manufacturers were too," Diane said.
"We really wanted to do something to help which led us to think about creating a customised e-card instead”.
Herdy's first post requesting nominations on April 6 reached nearly 20,000 people and the first winner was Nigel Bart who runs Windermere Post Office.
Herdy intends to run the campaign throughout the crisis and nominations can be made via its social media accounts.
Sue Hazlehurst, who nominated Nigel, said: “Nigel at Windermere Post Office has gone above and beyond the call of duty, even saying that if anyone has an emergency when he’s closed, he will open up and sort it as he lives above the Post Office.
"A well deserving Herdy Hero.”
