GROUPS of trespassers have reportedly been flouting lockdown rules and drinking on a Barrow golf green.
A number of reports have surfaced of large groups of people trespassing onto the green on Furness Golf Club in Walney during the lockdown
The greens chairman of Furness Golf Club, Jon Clarke, has described those who defy government guidelines as "disappointing".
He said: "I have found cider cans and beer bottles on the green and there has been significant damage to the bunkers.
"I've been in touch with Barrow police who have been a massive help."
Mr Clarke has condemned the behaviour of those who openly flout lockdown rules.
"It's very disappointing," he said.
"The motto 'stay home and protect lives' is about helping the NHS.
"And people going round in large groups potentially infecting one another and their families who could be key workers is a very serious matter."
Furness Golf club has shown their gratitude to the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic by flying a flag in their honour.
Mr Clarke said: “We wanted to show our love and support for all NHS workers who are doing a fantastic job at the moment.”
The club is arranging free golfing for NHS workers after the lockdown is lifted.
“We wanted to give back however we can,” Mr Clarke said.
“We are planning on offering free golf for NHS workers after this is all over. It’s our way of saying thank you.”
