A BARROW shop has been shortlisted amongst a host of superstars for one of the most prestigious prizes in the music industry.
TNT Records is one of eight finalists in the Independent Retailer category at this year’s Music Week Awards , which recognises the best in the business.
The star-studded award ceremony in London on May 6, 2020, will see the management team from the Duke Street shop rubbing shoulders with world-renowned names, with nominees in other categories including the likes of Coldplay, Stormzy and Glastonbury Festival.
The nomination in this prestigious award follows in the wake of some similar nationwide recognition for TNT Records , when it was recently named UK Record Shop of the Year.
Owner and founder Dave Turner said he was stunned when he read that they had made the shortlist for the Music Week Awards 2020, he said: “The Music Week Awards are the biggest awards in the industry, so to see TNT Records
shortlisted is beyond my wildest dreams.
"There’s household names on the list of nominees, such as Atlantic Records, Warner, there’s Amazon, Spotify, and even the likes of Lewis Capaldi and Liam Gallagher - it’s absolutely mad to think that we will be in the same room as some of them!”
Mr Turner set up TNT Records at the end of 2018, and the family-run business has gone from strength to strength. As well as the Music Week Awards nomination and its recent national title, it will also be featured again as one of Record Store Day’s official outlets in April.
The coming months will also see the business make the move into online retail, with the popularity of TNT Records now reaching far beyond its South Cumbria customer-base.
Mr Turner added: “It’s a very busy time for us, and things are about to get a whole lot more interesting. With our website on the way and another massive Record Store Day to look forward to, a win at the Music Week Awards would be an amazing way to top off this great start to 2020.”
Music Week Awards 2020 take place at Battersea Evolution, London, on Wednesday May 6, 2020.
