MANY people in Barrow are relieved the long-running Brexit saga is finally at an end.
Readers have had their say ahead of Brexit Day today with many saying ‘let’s just get on with it now’.
Tony Miller said: “Finally we voted remain lost and leave won, let’s get Brexit done and move on with our lives.”
Even staunch Remainers expressed relief as the ‘will they won’t they’ story comes to an end.
Graham Rushworth said: “The time for opinion has passed and public speculation is futile. As a dedicated remainer leaning heavily towards federalism I am now simply waiting to see what the reality of post Brexit life brings.
“I am pessimistic about government claims regarding the Irish border and general trade agreements both with EU and with other global markets but genuinely hope to be proved wrong.”
While others welcomed the conclusion of Brexit they did voice concerns.
Edric Gill said: “I hope it goes well but it’s still scary if it goes belly up.”
However, those against the idea of leaving the European Union were still keen to make their voices heard.
Barry Davies said: “I find people so hypocritical.
“Little Britain will never be great again.
“We do not have the British Empire we used to. Everyone is buying foreign cars, electrical goods, clothes, etc.
“People even use foreign banks like HSBC, First Direct, etc.
“How do you buy your power, is your power company owned by foreign companies, a lot are?
“Most of our gas is imported, some through undersea pipelines from Europe and Norway.
“We can’t even produce enough electricity so again this is imported through undersea cables. This is without even mentioning the food chain let alone retailers and online retailers.”
Overall though most were grateful to have the opportunity to talk about something other than Brexit.
Lucy Casson said: “It’s happening. Everyone stop moaning about it and get on with life as normal.”
