PLANS to build nearly 50 homes near a primary school have been submitted.
Permission to construct 46 two, three and four-bedroomed houses in School Road, Kirkby-in-Furness, is being sought from South Lakeland District Council (SLDC).
Previous plans to build 50 new houses off the A595 were submitted in May last year.
It was not made clear on the planning register why the previous application has now been amended.
A number of concerns were raised by Kirkby Ireleth Parish Council, Burlington School and also residents about the previous plans.
Alison Field, clerk to the Kirkby Ireleth Parish Council, wrote: “The parish council are concerned about drainage.
"The areas around the proposed development are renowned for experiencing problems with flooding.
“The entrance to the development is too close to the school which will result in a congestion problem at school starting and finishing times.
“They would therefore prefer the entrance to be further away from the school.”
Sarah Powell, the headteacher of Burlington Primary School, also voiced concerns in a letter.
She wrote: “I ask that it be considered that the developers erect a safe and secure boundary fence.
“We would like to request that larger lorries larger lorries and heavy machinery not be operated at busy school times.”
Now a new application for the housing development has been submitted.
Councillor Anne Hall, who represents High Furness on SLDC, welcomed the plans for more affordable housing in Kirkby.
“I’m passionate about more homes for local people,”she said.
“It’s a great investment for the future and would help bring in more people to Broughton.
“I might question the size of the development, however, 46 houses seems a lot for that area."
The plans, which were submitted by Holbeck Homes, are due to be discussed at the SLDC planning committee meeting later this month.
