AN eco-idea to power street lights in South Lakeland with dog poo has been binned.
The ‘transfurmational’ suggestion came during the climate conversations SLDC held with the public.
Cllr Dyan Jones, the cabinet member for the climate emergency, has now effectively said to ‘pug get about it’.
She said: “We generated a lot of very interesting ideas and councillors may well have me heard talking about dog-poo powered street lights on the radio, which is a very interesting, but not an idea I think we will be adopting any time soon. Nevertheless, there is such a thing in existence and if you want to Google it, it’s for real.”
Dog poo power a street lamp in the Malvern Hills where the public deposits the waste in an anaerobic digester which converts it into methane to fuel a lamp. Ten bags provide two hours of light.
Cllr Jones said SLDC was determined to address some of the ideas put forward. “We have been working hard to implement actions from last year’s meetings and looking at what we can do further.”
She said councillors had started initiatives such as the Eco Fair in Ulverston which was ‘great’ to see.
“I couldn’t go at the time as I was on holiday which was a bit of shame although I did follow it on Facebook,” added Cllr Jones.
