BUDDING young filmmakers are being invited to attend a free course in Barrow.
Barrow charity Signal Film and Media are offering a variety of free taster sessions and workshops for 16 too 19-year-olds interested in practical filmmaking.
This comes as part of the Get Digital course beginning on January 16.
Get Digitalis an intensive programme of activities designed to promote leadership, creative and digital skills among Barrow and Cumbria’s young people.
Those on the course will be given a number of opportunities including hands-on film skills sessions, one-to-one mentoring; the chance to devise and make dramatic and documentary short films and the chance to complete an accredited qualification.
The three month course begins with students having the chance to take part in an independent project funded by the Cumbria Police Crime Commissioner Community Fund.
They will create a short film shoot about hate crime over 3-days from 16-19th January.
Afterwhich the main Get Digital course will run weekly on Tuesday evenings at Cooke’s Studios on Abbey Road,5.30pm on January 22, with an additional full three day film shoot during February half term.
Interested participants will need to be available on January 16 and 17 from 5.30-8pm and for the full day on Saturday January 19.
Project Manager Julia Parks said: “It is going to be a really fun and practical programme that introduces story-telling, script-writing, cinematography, editing, special effects and loads more.
“This will really enable young people to learn creative media skills and meet professional filmmakers and artists; to see what the possibilities are out there for them.
“It also builds up their CVs for college or employment.”
