A woman has become one of the oldest mums in the world after giving birth - aged 65.
The woman, from Sailan in Jammu and Kashir, India gave birth to a healthy baby girl at a local hospital.
The 65-year-old was admitted to Poonch District Hospital on Wednesday, December 19 after she developed the labour pain.
In the late afternoon, she gave birth to her second child.
Local media reports that the woman had her first baby around eight years ago when she was 57.
Husband Hakim Din, 80, thanked Almighty Allah for blessing them with this “precious gift”.
He appealed to the government provide all possible help in feeding their child properly and also in her studies in the future.
Dr Shahnaza, gynecologist at Poonch District Hospital said the condition of the mother as well as the baby is stable.
Both are healthy, she added.
Dr Mumtaz Bhatti, chief medical officer (CMO) at Poonch District Hospital said that the hospital would help the family regarding treatment and other healthcare needs.
Dr Shabir Sidiqui, medical superintendent said the case was the rarest of rare.
He said: "Usually menopause sets in on an average at the age of 47 years in India.
"Once it sets in, there is no possibility (of giving birth). But this is a rare one."
The current record for the oldest birth is currently held by Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara who was aged 67 years 3 days when she gave birth to twins in December 2006.
