BARROW Raiders have responded after a video emerged of one of their players drunkenly falling from a town centre Christmas tree.
The 60-second clip of Brett Carter has been widely shared on social media and appears to show the winger climbing up the tree at the bottom of Dalton Road on Saturday night.
The footage shows Carter falling from the tree after managing to climb halfway up the structure.
He is then seen landing heavily on the pavement with a thud with blood pouring from the back of his head.
His friends, one of which appears to be fellow player Shane Toal, look on in shock as Carter lies motionless on the ground.
After pleading with him to get up, the group watch on and laugh at his misfortune as Carter stands and then collapses to the ground again, before seeming to say he believes he has broken his ankle.
One says: "Are you alright? Are you ok? Brett please jump up now."
One of the group holds up his blood-covered hand to the camera in shock.
A number of patches of blood are left on the rain-soaked pavement after the group start to walk away.
The Mail contacted the club's commercial director, Pete Murphy, and asked for a response to the video.
Mr Murphy said the club would not be commenting but added that the issue would be "dealt with internally by the club".
The Mail understands that Carter has not suffered any broken bones or injuries which would affect his playing for the club.
The incident is understood to have happened on the same night as a fundraising event and club Christmas get-together.
Carter, a former Chetwynde School pupil, first played for Raiders as a youngster before moving to Workington in 2009.
He spent eight seasons at Derwent Park.and then returned to his hometown team at the start of 2017.
The 30-year-old has also played for Scotland. Last month he signed a new one-year contract with Raiders.
