A NEW Turkish restaurant has opened in Barrow to rave reviews.
Ahmet Demir, 42, and Ozlem Korkmaz, 35, are the proud new owners of Izgara, a restaurant designed to bring a warm slice of the Mediterranean to Barrow’s streets.
Izgara opened its doors for the first time on Wednesday and expectant foodies rushed to Cavendish Street to get their first fix of traditional Turkish cuisine.
Mr Demir said: “We have been slowly renovating the building for around a year and now that our doors are finally open we are all really excited to bring quality, traditional Turkish food to the good people of Barrow.
“All our ingredients are freshly made by myself and staff, with beautifully marinated meat and home-cooked Turkish bread.
“We cook most of our meat on a charcoal grill giving our food that beautiful charred taste, that Turkish food is so famous for.
“We also have a fine selection of traditional Turkish sweets, such as the irresistable Baklava with freshly ground pistachio and a moist pastry layering that you really cannot beat.”
Mr Demir said he had received a warm welcome from his customers.
He said: “Everything went so well for our grand opening and everyone really enjoyed both the food and atmosphere."
Ms Korkmaz said; “This is a great sign for the future and we only hope to please everyone the best we can when they come through our doors.
“After taking our time with preparing the space we are now so excited to have people coming and enjoying the food- this is something we have both worked so hard for.
“Demir has been in the restaurant trade for 20 years so he really knows what it takes to succeed in this business and I myself have been in the trade for over six years now.
“We are all ready and waiting and we cannot wait for more people to come and try our food.”
On the menu is a wide variety of traditional Turkish dishes, from grills such as chicken and lamb shish, as well as unique takes on the classics, such as sucuk and mozzarella.
Mr Demir was also keen to promote other meals that are not on their menu, for example they will also be offering home-cooked stews, such as lamb guvec.
The restaurant is based at 3 Cavendish Street, Barrow and is open six days a week.
It is open every day except Tuesday from 11am until 3pm and 5pm until 11pm.
