POPPIES placed around Millom have been defaced by vandals - just days before Armistice Day.
The 213 poppies had been placed around the town to commemorate the town's war dead after the council made a contribution of £500 to the Royal British Legion.
The damage was discovered last night as the vandals spray-painted the some of the poppies as well as offensive pictures on the Army Cadet Centre on Moor Road.
People from the town have taken to Facebook to express their disgust.
Bryan Mitchinson said: "They gave their tomorrows for your today!
"What is happening in the town when the young people feel they have nothing better to do with their time and money except disrespect the town's heroes?"
Sharon Smith added: "Disgusting. Their parents must be so proud !"
