A DISGRACED consultant who worked at Furness General Hospital and still lives in a £635,000 home in Barrow has been told he can only work under strict conditions, The Mail can reveal.

Kavinder Madhra is under investigation by the General Medical Council regarding his employment with the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT).

The consultant urologist left the trust on September 28.

Just nine days earlier the General Medical Council (GMC) had imposed a series of strict interim conditions on Mr Madhra after launching an investigation.

The investigation follows claims from whistle-blower Peter Duffy - another former consultant urologist at the trust, who alleged Mr Madhra played golf instead of dealing with an emergency in 2005 and failing to diagnose cancer in patients.

After reportedly being subsequently accused of racism Mr Duffy resigned in 2016 and this July an employment tribunal found he had been constructively unfairly dismissed and awarded him £102,000 following a dispute over pay.

Mr Madhra, 63, has already been suspended twice during his time with UHMBT.

The trust has refused to comment on claims Mr Madhra was given a pay-off when he left his position at the end of last month.

Trust director David Wilkinson said: “We can confirm that Mr Madhra left the trust on Friday 28 September 2018.”

While the GMC continues its investigation into Mr Madhra he is subject to six conditions which must be satisfied if he wants to practice as a doctor.

These include notifying the GMC if he intends to accept a new job; gaining GMC approval to work in a non-NHS setting; notifying the GMC of any disciplinary proceedings instigated against him; being closely supervised if he takes up any job; and informing any new employer of the conditons imposed while the investigation is ongoing.

A spokeswoman for the GMC said: "We can confirm that an investigation is under way but we cannot provide more detail at this stage.

"The doctor currently has interim conditions, which were imposed by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) at an Interim Orders Tribunal (IOT)."

Mr Madhra achieved his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Delhi in 1978.

He registered with the GMC in 1993 and was registered as a specialist in urology in 1996.

Mr Madhra is understood to still be living in a large detached home in The Gardens in Barrow. The property is estimated to be worth £635,000.

No one answered the door when The Mail visited his home yesterday, although a car remains parked in the drive, and his telephone number goes unanswered.
