RISING singing star Jolan Gidney-Craigen is continuing his fight for a place on The Voice tonight.

The 22-year-old has made it through to the battle rounds of the TV singing contest, where he will be battling against fellow contestant Efe Udugba.

They are set to perform Beat Surrender by The Jam on tonight’s show on BBC 1, from 7pm.

Jolan, of Moor Row, is unable to reveal the outcome of the audition. But he describes tonight’s performance as a “duet rather than a battle”.

“We get on so well. It was so much fun. We didn’t see it as a battle,” he said.

Tonight’s show is the start of the battle rounds on the singing contest. Celebrity coaches – Jolan’s coach Ricky Wilson, Paloma Faith, Boy George and Will.i.am – will be pitching their chosen acts against each other.

Each coach must decide who to send home out of each pairing.

Following the battle rounds, there are also the knockout rounds, before the live shows begin.

Jolan wowed judges in the blind auditions with his rendition of Terence Trent D’Arby’s classic Wishing Well.

It was so good that three out of the four celebrity judges fought to get him onto their teams. He picked lead singer of the Kaiser Chiefs, Ricky Wilson, as his celebrity mentor.

Since appearing on the blind auditions, Jolan has been inundated by supporters both nationally and locally.

A Facebook page Jolan To Win The Voice 2016 has around 800 followers, with a host of messages of support.
