Even if you didn't grow up to be Caroline Wozniacki or Andy Murray, tennis still has some great health and fitness benefits for people of all ages.
Whether you want to have a casual game with your best friend or compete to county level with a team, it's easy to see why tennis players are in such great shape.
Tennis involves continuous movement which requires a good level of aerobic fitness and is a great form of cardio. Doctors tell us to aim for two 30-minute sessions of cardio activity each week. It also helps to develop our ability to work at high intensity for short periods, known as anaerobic capacity and repeatedly performing forehands and backhands will increase your core stability and tone your midsection - ready for your beach holiday!
Hannah Paling, Active Communities Coordinator at Ulverston Leisure Centre, said: "We have a great tennis centre here in Ulverston and we run two weeks of tennis camps for youngsters during the Summer holidays.
"Tennis can be enjoyed as a physically demanding sport but it also has a great social side too. The most popular tennis night we run is the over-50s nights on a Monday and Wednesday. There is also a ladies night which is really well attended and the members get together afterwards for tea and cake.
"I think tennis is certainly a summer sport and there is always an increase of people playing around this time of year when Wimbledon-fever kicks in."
