POLICE have named a motorcyclist who died after a crash on the A590 in south Cumbria.
A motorbike and a car collided at Levens between Brettargh Holt and the Meathop roundabout just before 2pm last Friday. The North West Air Ambulance airlifted a woman in her 70s from the car to the Royal Preston Hospital, after she sustained serious neck and back injuries.
Doctors anaesthetised the man, believed to be the motorcyclist, and gave him a blood transfusion at the scene before The Great North Air Ambulance airlifted him to Royal Preston Hospital with critical injuries.
Police have now confirmed that the man died on Tuesday night was Dr Christopher David Lightfoot, aged 41, from Bristol.

In a statement, Cumbria police said: "Police can confirm that a man who died following a collision at Gilpin Bridge on the A590, on September 2nd, has been identified as Dr Christopher David Lightfoot, aged 41, from Bristol.
"Dr Lightfoot was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital after the incident, and later died on September 6th. He was riding a Triumph Tiger Explorer motorcycle which collided with a Citroen Picasso causing extensive damage to both vehicles.
"Specially trained officers are supporting the family of Dr Lightfoot at this time. Police are appealing for any witnesses that may have been on the A590 and saw the incident.
